The Vattikuti Foundation has again sponsored a prize at the 2021 European Association of Urology Annual Congress for the Best Paper published on Robotic Surgery in the European Urology Journal.
This year winner of the Prize was Dr. Geolani W Dy, Department of Urology, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, with the paper: Outcomes of Gender Affirming Peritoneal Flap Vaginoplasty Using the Da Vinci Single Port Versus Xi Robotic Systems. Geolani W Dy, Min Suk Jun, Gaines Blasdel, Rachel Bluebond-Langner, Lee C Zhao Eur Urol. 2021 May;79(5):676-683. doi: 10.1016/j.eururo.2020.06.040. Epub 2020 Jul 2.
The study describes a step-by-step technique for Robotic-assisted peritoneal flap gender-affirming vaginoplasty (RPGAV) using the Single Port (SP) robot, comparing outcomes between Xi and SP systems. The authors conclude that “RPGAV using the SP robot reduces operative time by facilitating a dual-surgeon abdominal-perineal approach, with no difference in complication rates between the two methods.”
We applaud Dr. Dy and her colleagues on their efforts! Dr. Mahendra Bhandari adds: "We congratulate Dr. Dy and her colleagues on their research demonstrating the advantages that the SP system affords patients. The Vattikuti Foundation is proud to continue to support data-driven research demonstrating how using the latest surgical technology can be utilized to benefit patients the world over."
