551 Handheld robotic arm assisted vaginal hysterectomy
Dr. Suyash Naval
The vaginal route is considered best to do a hysterectomy. However, the large size of the uterus poses a unique problem that significantly increases the difficulty of transvaginal hysterectomy due to less operative space and poor vision. In recent years, vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) has evidently helped to overcome these difficulties. But vNOTES involves the use of straight-stick laparoscopy instruments that can clash during surgery, as this approach is similar to single-port surgery. Therefore, we propose an innovative solution of using a novel handheld robotic arm for assistance in vNOTES hysterectomy for difficult cases. A handheld robotic arm has a significantly smaller size compared to a full console multiple-arm robotic system. Moreover, it does not require docking. Although a handheld robotic arm does not have all the attributes of a multi-arm robotic system, the aforementioned advantages possibly make it more convenient in the vNOTES setting.
