639 Surgical Synergy: Enhancing Robotic precision with general tools
Dr. Rajesh Kochupapy
Problem: In minimal access surgery (MIS), maintaining a clear and undisturbed visual field is often challenging. Inadequate traction and assistance can hinder exposure, increase operative time, and compromise safety. Solution: The innovative use of simple, low-cost surgical materials—such as thread, loops, rubber bands, and small gauze—can significantly enhance traction, counter-traction, and visibility during MIS procedures. Innovative Case: Prolene thread or T-lift sutures are used to elevate structures like the uterus or pelvic peritoneum, improving access in pelvic surgery. Mastoid swabs protect vital organs (e.g., duodenum, ureter) during multi-quadrant colorectal operations. Sterile rubber bands offer controlled, progressive traction in pancreatic and gynaecological surgeries. Each item introduced is documented on an OR board, with a designated team member assigned to track usage and ensure removal. This strategy improves operative efficiency, minimizes complications, and prevents retained surgical materials.
