This is one of the 2023 KS International Innovation Awards videos selected for inclusion in the Vattikuti Foundation – ORSI Humans on the Cutting Edge of Robotic Surgery Conference, October 6, 7 & 8, 2023 in Ghent, Belgium. Posting does not imply that is has been selected as a Finalist, just that the content will be discussed at the Conference.

From the entry: Dr. Manu Sancheti, Robotic Right Middle Lobectomy and Combined Right Upper Lobe Anterior Segmentectomy

ABSTRACT We present the case of a 74-year-old Asian female with biopsy proven non-small cell cancer within the right middle lobe extending into the anterior segment of the right upper lobe. Interestingly, noted on the preoperative imaging was an aberrant upper lobe anterior segmental bronchus arising from the bronchus intermedius (BI). We present a case report of a safe and effective use of robotic technology to perform an anatomic lung resection in the setting of complex variant anatomy. This case report highlights the dexterity of the robotic platform and enhanced utility in performing anatomically challenging thoracic surgical dissections.
