Miami Saturday Session 1B: Prof. Sherry Wren

Advancing open-access education for surgical teams worldwide is the focus of this keynote, delivered by Professor Prof. Sherry Wren of Stanford University. The talk centers on the development and rollout of the United Nations Global Surgery Learning Hub, known as SURGhub, an initiative aimed at expanding access to surgical knowledge across regions with limited training infrastructure. Beyond the SURGhub project itself, the session offers a personal look at Professor Wren’s career, including her early work as a pioneering robotic surgeon alongside Intuitive Surgical, and her broader mission to spread medical and surgical knowledge globally. As a longtime judge for the KS International Innovation Awards, she brings both technical credibility and a deep commitment to global health equity to this keynote. Surgeons, medical educators, and global health advocates will find this session especially compelling, as it bridges personal career reflection with a concrete look at one of the most ambitious surgical education initiatives currently underway. The talk offers genuine inspiration alongside practical insight into how large-scale surgical education programs are built and sustained across borders.
