Vattikuti Foundation Adds Partner Surgeon, Institute

Dr. Mahendra Bhandari, CEO of the Vattikuti Foundation has announced a new partnership with Dr A. V. Guarava Reddy, the Chairman & Chief Joint Replacement Surgeon at the Sunshine Bone & Joint Institute. He is also the Managing Director of Sunshine Hospitals, a 700-bed institution he founded in 2009. Sunshine has two Stryker Mako orthopedic robots (one is a 4th-generation model), and is internationally accredited through the exclusive International Society of Orthopaedic Centres.
"We are very pleased to form this affiliation with Dr. Reddy and Sunshine," says Dr. Bhandari. "The Vattikuti Foundation continues its leadership in minimally invasive surgery with this new partnership."
Dr. Reddy is credited with performing over 4,000 joint replacement procedures a year (in the past 2-years, 2,000 have been done robotically). He also has trained 300 surgeons in joint replacement techniques, and provides 15- Fellowships per year. He serves as a consultant to robotic manufacturer Johnson & Johnson's DePuy subsidiary.
The Vattikuti Foundation, founded by philanthropists Raj & Padma Vattikuti, is recognized for funding the first successful robotic surgery program in the world in Detroit, at the Vattikuti Urology Institute, Henry Ford Hospital. With Dr. Mahendra Bhandari as CEO, the Foundation has grown to include networks of partner surgeons and institutions all over the globe. In addition, the Vattikuti Foundation sponsors a global robotic surgery database, The Robotic Surgeons Council of India, several Vattikuti Fellowships annually, a robotic surgery information/education website and the KS International Robotic Surgery Video Awards.
