Dr. Mani Menon and Team Publish 15-Year RALP Prostate Cancer Study
The Journal Nature has published a unique study following men who had undergone a Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy (RALP), starting with some of the earliest patients of Dr. Mani Menon at the Vattikuti Urology Institute, Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. One of the hallmarks of Dr. Menon and his team's pace-setting program has always been relying on fact-driven data to understand more completely the effectiveness of the RALP procedure and subsequent developments over the years.
As described in Nature's abstract:
"...While the side-effects of robotic radical prostatectomy have been well-quantified, the data on its long-term efficacy are lacking. We here provide 15-year oncological outcomes of clinically-localized prostate cancer (CLPCa) patients treated with robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP)."
The researchers obtained data from 920 men- out of a total of 1807 patients treated- for 15-years. Tables and curve graphs help show the reader where the data has led the research team. Vattikuti Urology Institute alumni Dr. Akshay Sood was lead author.
