After a months-long review by over 30- Primary Care Physicians, California-based Stanford Health Care is using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) program to digest and interpret patient test results for patients. Currently, the AI is just the first step in informing the patients. Stanford, in a news release explains the details: "The technology drafts an interpretation of clinical test and lab results and explains them in a message using plain language, which a physician then reviews and approves."
According to the release, the in-house AI prepares a draft first: "The drafts aren’t sent directly to the patient after the tool creates them — each one is reviewed and, if necessary, edited, before the physician sends the note."
Stanford expects to continue to develop the system, with future uses for patients receiving reports from their Specialists as well.
