587 Robotic Ectopic Thymoma Excision Masquerading as Pericardial Cyst

Dr. Abhinav Deshpande

Thymomas are epithelial tumors that typically arise in the anterior mediastinum. Ectopic pericardial thymomas are extremely rare entities. They may present with Myasthenic symptoms like deteriorating dyspnea, dysphagia which can be refractory to medical management and may pose significant problem. Solution in such cases might be consideration of complete thymic tissue removal alongwith ectopic thymic tissue resection. Conventional Sternotomy or thoracotomy for thymic excision might further add to the morbidity and may even lead to mortality . In such cases Robotic complete thymectomy with ectopic thymoma excision would be the best consideration .VATS has certain limitations especially in ectopic location , such cases benefit the most by the Robotic approach. Innovative port placements depending on location as well as tailoring the steps of dissection according to every case form the hallmark of a successful Robotic Ectopic Thymoma and in turn Myasthenia treatment.
