626 Artificial intelligence-Augmented reality guidance for radical prostatectomy

Dr. Daniele Amparore

Robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) faces a key challenge: balancing effective cancer control with preservation of nerve function. Traditional approaches relying on 2D MRI interpretation risk positive surgical margins (PSM) at the neurovascular bundle (NVB) and suboptimal functional outcomes. This study introduces 3D augmented reality (AR) with artificial intelligence (AI) to overlay patient-specific MRI-derived images onto the surgical field. By guiding selective excisional biopsies and tailoring nerve-sparing procedures, this technology reduces NVB PSM and improves continence without compromising oncological safety. The innovation lies in the automatic, intraoperative 3D visualization of the tumor, enabling precise, personalized surgery that enhances both cancer control and functional recovery.
