Prof. Dr. Rooma Sinha is Senior Gynecologist Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeon at Apollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. She tells the Robotic Surgeons Council of India (RSC) how she has taken the standard da Vinci protocol for robotic myomecomy and modified it to be more, “economically viable to our patients.”
“I always work with preoperative MRI,” Dr. Sinha states. “I don’t want to be in surprise, once I get into doing myomectomy.” She explains her various steps and how she successfully uses fewer ports- and robotic tools- than called for for different types of myomas. Her ideas for reducing the OR time also results in reduced costs overall. Another factor she considers is reducing the hospital stay for her patients, targeting a stay of just one day, as opposed to the average of three days. She finishes off by sharing news of a new robotic device coming soon to Indian hospitals.
