Robotic Low Anterior Resection on a da Vinci System

Dr. Somashekhar SP, Chairman- Surgical Oncology, MHEPL, HOD & Consultant Surgical Oncologist at the Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Bangalore, conducted a live surgical procedure at Yenepoya Medical College, July 21, 2018. The patient was a 60-year-old male complaining of rectal bleeding was found to have a 7cm growth from the anal verge upon rectal examination. One reviewer comments: “He has wonderfully demonstrated the dissection in the proper TME plane, taking all the lymphatic tissue along with complete mobilisation.”

Prof. Somashekhar explains the reasons for his robotic placement on camera, before proceeding to the surgery itself. He narrates the complete procedure live, from the console, which makes this an excellent training video for other surgeons.
