As part of the Vattikuti Foundation Poverty Alleviation Initiative, the Vattikuti Foundation in India is working to provide safe drinking water to 200 plus families residing primarily in the 23 identified villages of Nalbari, Darrang and Goalpara districts of Assam. The villages and districts were chosen based on Vattikuti Foundation’s ongoing ‘Unnati-Poverty Alleviation Programme in Assam’. The identified villages did not have safe drinking water and were prone to water borne diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid, jaundice etc. This ongoing effort is providing hand pumps to each village in community areas along with water purifiers.
A total of 46 hand pumps and 46 water purifiers were installed in the selected 23 villages of Nalbari, Darrang and Goalpara districts of Assam. Selection of beneficiaries and the designated areas for the installation of hand pump and water filters was decided together by RGVN, local Gram Panchayat and by the village committees, in order to ensure a general consensus that deserving beneficiaries have been taken care of under the program.
