Sir Ganga Ram Hospital establishes the Institute of Robotic Surgery

The Institute of Robotic Surgery has been established with pride at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) in New Delhi, India on 15th March, 2012 with the installation of Intuitive Surgical’s state-of-the-art da Vinci Si HD Surgical System. The first robotic surgery here, a thymectomy, was performed on an 18 years-old girl with myasthenia gravis on 16th March, 2012. Over the short span of the next 25 days, the team of surgeons at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital had performed 23 robotic surgeries.
The Institute of Robotic Surgery Sir Ganga Ram Hospital made history when Prof. Arvind Kumar led a team of surgeons consisting of Dr. Roman Dutta, Dr. Sandeep Aggarwal, Dr. Ajay Yadav and Dr. Satwik performed Asia’s first completely robotic vascular surgery, an Aorto-bifemoral bypass on the 7th April, 2012. They proceded to perform three more vascular cases including one infra-renal abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery over next 2 days. The team was under the supervision of Prof. Petr Stadler from Homolka Hospital in Prauge, Czech Republic.
This Institute is slated to have a clinical division, soft skills & research division and a technology development division.
