Bariatric Surgery Can Enhance Fertility

17 JANUARY 2025

The Medscape news service reports on a study of over 1,000 patients by the Orlando Health Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Insitute. The Institute found that 56% of their patients were not aware that obesity can cause infertility in some cases, due to preventing ovulation or blocking fertility treatment effectiveness.

From the Medscape report:
"Obesity can affect overall health, including increased risks for diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, and various cancers. Half of the survey respondents reported they either didn't know or are neutral about the negative impact of being overweight on fertility."

The report also focused on weight-loss drugs, plus reminded readers of complications linked to bariatric surgery.
