Prostate cancer can have a devastating effect on men- it is the fifth-leading cause of cancer deaths globally- and second-highest cause of death in the U.S. According to 'Medscape News UK,' prostate cancer is the leading cause of deaths there. 'Medscape' has reported that a new U.K. Test program scheduled to begin in 2026, may help change this.
NHS England will be initiating a one-stop screening process for prostate cancer featuring initial MRI reviews using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The AI system is designed to discern areas of concern. When possible cancer is discovered by the AI, the MRI's are then sent to human radiologists for immediate study.
The trial program not only looks to shorten the time between diagnosis and treatment, but to make it easier and faster for men to find out whether they have prostate cancer. Patients found by the radiologist' secondary study to have possible cancer will then have biopsies performed the same day. Within days- or hours, pathologists can examine the prostate tissue taken from the biopsy, and give an 'all clear,' or 'sorry, you have cancer' diagnosis.
