20 November 2025

Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) may soon be treated post-operatively with what is being called the 'Quiet Knee' Protocol. The Foundation for Orthopedic Research and Education, FORE has released a study from the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), NY, NY, explaining this new techique.

Instead of the current practice of aggressive physical therapy following a total knee replacement, patients were subjected to a more relaxed recovery: Limited movement, limited range-of-motion, and "agressive cryotherapy."

The HSS authors revealed that patients on this protocol used 25% less opioids for pain management, and also had "smoother long-term recovery.
