#230 Robotic Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy- Dr. Erica Stockwell

This is one of the 2023 KS International Innovation Awards videos selected for inclusion in the Vattikuti Foundation – ORSI Humans on the Cutting Edge of Robotic Surgery Conference, October 6, 7 & 8, 2023 in Ghent, Belgium. Posting does not imply that is has been selected as a Finalist, just that the content will be discussed at the Conference.

From the entry: Abstract Title: Robot Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy

Objective: Most surgical bodies within gynecology consider vaginal hysterectomy to be the preferred method over abdominal and laparoscopic in terms of clinical and economic outcomes. Vaginal surgery leads to faster recoveries, earlier discharge from the hospital, fewer febrile episodes, less pain and pain medication use, shorter operative time and overall lower hospital costs. However, there are a number of challenges that can make performing vaginal surgery difficult. These include lack of descensus, adhesions, size of pathology and narrowed vaginal access. The novel vaginal access Anovo robotic platform by Momentis Surgery offers an innovative solution that leverages the benefits of less invasive technique, such as ergonomics of robotics, visualization and advanced energy of laparoscopy, with the clinical benefits of vaginal surgery.

Materials and Methods: This video highlights the use and benefits of robotic assisted vaginal surgery for hysterectomy.

Results: To date, there have been nearly 150 cases successfully and safely performed on the Anovo system without any major complications. An ongoing registry is currently being conducted to follow long term outcomes.

Conclusion: In conclusion, the Anovo robotic platform by Momentis Surgical provides a novel approach to vaginal surgery by incorporating advanced robotic technology to enable a least invasive approach for women and is in support of current guidelines of a vaginal approach preference when feasible. This technology has the potential to become the standard of care for surgical approach in women’s health.
