Range of Robotic Bariatric Surgery

“When we talk about the Gastric Band,” says Dr. Arun Prasad, HOD, General Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Bariatric Surgery for Manipal Hospitals, Delhi. “The three dimensional vision of the hiatus makes a tremendous difference during the surgery.”

He shares his experiences with the Robotic Surgeons Council of India for several different bariatric procedures, using excellent robotic surgery videos. For some procedures, he explains how robotic surgery actually saves time for the surgeon- and provides more accuracy, as in the gastric bypass. “The anastomosis is sutures, so- this has been shown clearly amongst various studies across the world, which is what we have also found- that the robitcally sutured anastomosis has a lower leak rate and a lower stricture rate compared to the stapled anastomosis.”
