658 Robotic approach to duplex Anomalies and associated Problems

Dr. Sujit Chowdhary

Duplex anomalies are one of common congenital anomalies of the urinary tract, occurring in 1–3% of babies. Nearly 50% are associated with secondary problems such as VUR, vesicoureteric junction obstruction, pelviureteric junction obstruction, ureterocele, or ectopic ureters. The majority of affected children present at variable ages, often with urinary tract infections, hydronephrosis, or voiding dysfunction. Successful management depends on assessment of the differential renal function of the upper moiety. In the open surgical era, these anomalies frequently required staged procedures. With advances in minimally invasive techniques, complex one-stage surgeries addressing both upper and lower urinary tract pathology have become feasible in laparoscopic and more recently robotic surgery.
