Fully Robotic McKeowns Esophagectomy

Presented by Dr. Surender Dabas, Director, Surgical Oncology, Head Neck and Thoracic Services, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, India, to the Robotic Surgeons Council of India, Goa, 11-2017:

“It was the robot, which caused me to move from head and neck to thoracic by seeing the beauty of robotic technology,” says Dr. Dabas. For his patient, he used 3-robotic arms, plus one extra assistant port. He describes the tools he uses and the technique as he shows very clear robotic surgery video clips. He talks about recovery, when compared to open surgery patients, and cost comparisons: “So this (open) ICU- 4 or 5 days, or ICU- 1 day (for robotic) recovers your costs of robotic technology.”
