Robotic Esophagectomy – Audit

“If you don’t give the option of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), sometimes it is very unfair to the patient… For the thoracic part- thoracotomy, nothing like that. All other laparoscopic surgery in GI (Gastrointestinal) you see, the benefit of MIS in all the studies- only initial. The moment you pass two months, all of them even out,” Dr. S. P. Somashekhar, Manipal Hospital Chairman Surgical Oncology, HOD, Consultant Surgical, Gynec.Onco & Robotic Surgeon, tells the Robotic Surgeons Council of India. He adds: “But not so in thoracic surgery. The MIS benefit carry on for a lot of months, and sometimes for even years!”

Dr. Somashekhar shares the advantages of robotic surgery he has discovered since 2011, using robotic surgery footage, PowerPoints, photos of port placement and enthusiastic commentary. He included several tips and tricks learned from his years of experience.
