All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur is the first “paperless” hospital in India. Dr. Sanjeev Mishra is the Hospital Director, and Keynote Speaker for the 11th meeting of the Robotic Surgeons Council of India (RSC). He talked about the changing scenario in Indian Healthcare. From the first day it opened, AIIMS has served from 2,500 to 3,000 patients daily. He tells the RSC, meeting in Jodhpur in December 2018, about the challenges facing both public and private hospitals in India. Regional issues, lacking proper funding and providing good quality teaching can be difficult to overcome for a nation which spends just over 1% of their GNP for healthcare annually. However, he sees a bright future in collaboration, telemedicine, Artificial Intelligence, and innovations in patient care using technology to augment the medical professionals.
