Social Media Tips for Robotic Surgeons

Dr. Gagan Gautam is the Head of Urologic Cancer Surgery (Urologic Oncology) and Robotic Surgery at Medanta, the Medicity, New Delhi. (Medanta Vattikuti Institute of Robotic Surgery) His “rather unconventional topic,” was chosen by the presenter, who suggests that social media is an essential part of people’s lives. In this well-rounded program, he warns colleagues that patients can hurt a practitioner’s reputation in an instant via social media, even while waiting to be seen in the waiting room. He suggests ways surgeons can use social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to inform patients and the community about the work that they do. Gautam also advises that Blogs can be an effective way to enhance one’s reputation via search engines. He also warns that there can be pitfalls to using popular social media sites as well.
