The Apollo Robotic Colorectal Surgery Program- Experience & Outcomes
Dr. Venkatesh (Venky) Munikrishnan is a Consultant and Lead Colorectal Surgeon at Apollo Hospital, Chennai. He shares his experiences of setting up a new robotic colorectal surgery program. First, he talks about laparoscopic, and the transition to robotic surgery in 2015. “Going away and getting the (Intuitive Surgical) certification really helps,” He tells the Robotic Surgeons Council of India.
The decision was made to stop all laparoscopic procedures in favor of robotic surgery. He talks about multidisciplinary collaboration, the need for proctors for new surgeons, and developing the culture of robotic surgery and teams: console and bedside.
