TORS- Robot Assisted Neck Dissection in Management of Gingivobuccal Cancers
Full title: Facelift and Retroauricular Approach for Posterior Segmental Mandubulectomy Combined With Robotic Assisted Neck Dissection in Management of Gingivobuccal Cancers.
“We are all aware, oral cancer is a common problem for us,” Dr. Vishal Rao, Consultant Head and Neck Surgical Oncologist & Robotic Surgeon, HCG Cancer Centre, Bengaluru, tells his colleagues in the Robotic Surgeons Council of India. “And the vast majority of them are coming to us in the locally advanced stage.”
He shares the impact, which disfiguring cancer surgery has on his patients- and also on himself as a surgeon. His solution for three patients was to use a “modified facelift approach.” He terms it “Cosmesis, but without compromising margins.” He reveals to his audience the process of studying the radiology, opening the patient and removing the T-4 tumor.
Working with a plastic surgeon and using 3-D printing, one patient was provided with a “gratifying” reconstruction following the significant procedure. He describes and shows his steps, citing the advantages robotic provides.
