Robotic Radical Gastrectomy with D2 Lymphadenectomy for Gastric Cancer on da Vinci X System

Dr. Somashekhar S. P. is Chairman-Surgical Oncology, MHEPL, HOD & Consultant Surgical Oncologist at the Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Bangalore, India. He recently provided this excellent instructional video of a robotic procedure done with the da Vinci Surgical System Model X. It was produced with the assistance of two Fellows- Dr. Abhinav Deshpande & Dr. Revanth Gangasani. The patient, a 55-yr-old man with a 4×3 cm mass lesion in the upper curvature of the stomach.

The video describes the important aims for Total Gastrectomy surgery, including margins required and lymph node dissection goals. Also described is the need for laparoscopic staging- using an ‘optiview port’ to inspect the abdominal cavity- before placing the robotic ports. Port placement is shown and described. Thorough robotic surgery steps are visualized using robotic surgery footage, with freeze frames and labels to show anatomic highlights.
