Partial Nephrectomy in Complex Tumors, large Tumors & Hilar Tumors

This recoded presentation was a part of the What is the Evidence? session for the Robotic Surgeons Council of India (RSC), presented by Additional Professor Dr. Ravimohan Mavuduru from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh.

Dr. Mavuduru compares various published research about open surgery and robot assisted partial nephrectomies, including one study using Vattikuti Collective Quality Initiative (VCQI) data to reflect on whether partial nephrectomies- open or robotic- are warranted for complex tumors. He also compared 5-year and 10-year survival outcomes to share with the RSC audience.

He feels that more research comparing partial nephrectomy to total removal of the kidney (radical nephrectomy) is needed, and that surgeons must present facts to their patients who face treatment for large renal tumors, to aid in their decisions regarding these tumors.
